Understanding the father of modern mining in Panama

When writing the history of mining in our country, it is necessary to devote a special chapter for Richard Fifer, known also as the father of modern mining in Panama. His contribution, significant in the development of this and other industries and economic activities, represents a major contribution, which is precisely why I feel obliged to share part of the resume and professional execution of someone who has also held public office, ranging from the Ministry of Commerce and Industry, to the Governor of the Province Cocle.
Mining is not the only activity that has been pushed and strengthened by this Panamanian visionary, soon we will know his contributions to another activity, completely compatible with the mining industry, which is tourism. Examples of how international mining and tourism go hand in hand, becoming, not only in a few cases wherein it is the main source of wealth  such as the Dominican Republic, Cuba, Peru, Chile and Mexico to name a few, leaving out, theme parks dedicated to Mining and visited as a major site of interest, in California, where tourists can relate all that happened in California during the mining eras, the
eighteenth and nineteenth centuries, history, it is closely linked to the existence of Panama and its contribution as a transit site with the construction of the Railway and later the Panama Canal.

From our humble forum, we wanted to share some of the details of the path taken by Richard Fifer Carles, so as to gain the right perspective of that achieved through hard work and determination. Panama has been put on the world map of mining and has simultaneously been a deciding factor in generating jobs for many Panamanian in various types of activities. In a country where its hard to speak well of others and give credit where it is due, we believe its an opportune time to set an example a person that has gained a place in history that is still being written.
